Apple announced in October 25, 2016 its profit over the past quarter fell 19 percent to $9 billion, pulled down by a drop in iPhone sales. The world’s biggest company by market value said revenue in the fiscal fourth quarter fell to $46.9 billion from $51.5 billion a year earlier.
The results were largely in line with market forecasts and showed sales of the iPhone — Apple’s biggest revenue and profit driver — down five percent from a year ago to 45.5 million units.
The quarterly update only provides limited information on the reception of the newest iPhone models, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, which were released in early September.
Analysts were expecting declines in iPhone sales with many smartphone markets saturated, a situation which has led Apple to focus on new products like the Apple Watch and services like mobile payments and streaming music.
Chief executive Time Cook welcomed what he called “our strong September quarter results,” saying they :cap a very successful fiscal 2016 for Apple.”
Cook said in a statement: “We’re thrilled with the customer response to iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and Apple Watch Series 2, as well as the incredible momentum of our Services business, where revenue grew 24 percent to set another all-time record.”
Apple closed out its fiscal year ending September 24 with a net profit of $45.7 billion on revenues of $215.6 billion, both figures lower than the prior year.
However in the wake of Apple iPhone woes, Xiaomi caught up with the lag to surprised smartphone enthusiasts with its latest offering Mi Mix. It’s an edgeless smartphone that’s free of bezels on three sides. Phone’s thin body is made entirely of ceramic and it’ll go on sale on November 4 in China.
Its launch event in Beijing, Xiaomi rolled out the Mi Note 2 with a curved display, resembling the screen of deceased Galaxy Note 7. It comes with a 5.7-inch 3D QLED display and impressive 77.2% screen-to-body ratio.
The company has managed to create this look by removing the physical earpiece speaker and sensors. Mi Mix features under-the-display piezoelectric ceramic driver for the earpiece and an ultrasonic proximity sensor. The front of Mi Mix sits at the bottom of the device.
Mi Mix specifications
Talking about the technical specifications, the phone is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chip clocking at 2.35GHz. It also features 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB internal storage. The display is 6.4-inch 2040×1080 pixel. You also get a powerful 4,400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. For shooting pictures, in the rear, there’s a 16MP camera. For selfies, there’s a 5MP camera.
Mi Mix also arrives in a Pro avatar with 6GB RAM and 256GB storage space. Another notable feature of the Pro version is an 18k gold trim around the rear camera and fingerprint sensor.
The Mi Mix smartphone will be available for purchase from November 4 in China. The buyers will need to pay $516 for the 4GB/128GB version. The 18K Pro version will cost $590.
