Mr Tunde Adedoyin MD Media Views ltd.
Mr Tunde Adedoyin,Managing Director of Mediaviews Limited spoke to brandcampaign on how professionalism has improved in the outdoor advertising industry. Excerpts.
Brandcampaign: In the past,Outdoor advertising agencies had the challenge of employing or retaining tested professionals who can compete favourably with other sectors in the advertising industry, what is the situation now?
Adedoyin: I don’t believe that there are issues concerning personnel in the outdoor advertising industry. During the era of plywood usage in the sector,Afromedia Limited was the company that training most of the personnel that pioneered the outdoor advertising industry.
Some of us that later veered into the sector poached some of the Afromedia staff to start our businesses on a sound note.
Usually when Afromedia recruits new set of personnel, the company had a training school. But the challenge as at that time was that most of the production crew were professionals who did not need so much education.
What they learnt then was how to erect billboards, how to mix starch, how to paste posters and then in each of the area or regional offices,we had sales officers who would liaise with advertising agencies or in some cases liaised with small scale clients.
As technology improves, a lot of the Out-Of-Home advertising companies began to have certified engineers, marketing professionals on their payroll and also poached personnels from advertising agencies. So, as we are now in the era of digital technology,we in the Out-Of-Home advertising sector are cautious ,we now employ staff that can manage big investments that run into millions of naira. So,I must conclude that you cannot just put a carpenter to install or manage an electronic billboard.
On this note,in the advertising industry, i can authoritatively inform you that professionals in the Out-Of-Home advertising sector can compete favourably with other professionals within the industry and this trend has greatly improved over the years.
