In a bid to make the 2016 ADVAN Marketing Excellence Awards a most memorable event, the executives of the Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN), have constituted a high-power team of world class marketing executives to organise the event.
The seasoned marketing professionals will be led by the Marketing Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Franco Maria Maggi, who would also serve as Chairman of the 2016 ADVAN Awards.
According to David Okeme, President ADVAN, the event, which is the sixth edition of the awards, will take place at the MUSON centre, Onikan, Lagos on October 29, 2016.
In the same vein, the judging process of the ADVAN Marketing Excellence Awards have been revamped with Managing Director of DDB Lagos, Ikechi Odigbo and Vice President Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) now appointed Chairman of the Panel of Judges for the 2016 Awards.
According to Okeme, this year’s award is part of ADVAN’s greater design to establish the marketing profession on a sustainable path to greatness. The event promises to be even more spectacular following endorsement from the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA).
Speaking about the award, the ADVAN President said “Akin to previous years, ADVAN would be preparing for this year’s event with the passion to highlight the fundamental position marketing occupies in our business and public sectors. As the umbrella body for marketing professionals, we strive to maintain, develop and set standards for the marketing industry.
“Despite the seemingly chaotic economic space, we promise to make the awards a night of glamour and excitement. Plans are in full gear to ensure a very memorable event. Given that the Award planning team is a combination of the nation’s most creative and articulate minds, it is assured that the ADVAN Awards Ceremony will be one of the most celebrated events of 2016.”
Another innovation in this year’s award is that two new categories have been introduced. The two categories are Public Sector Marketing and Marketing on a Shoestring budget. The public sector marketing Awards category is to recognize the effective use of marketing elements, and delivery of the marketing strategy and communications programmes executed for/by public sector institutions. For Marketing on a shoestring budget award, the goal is to recognise the maximisation of “limited budgets” in achieving impact and measurable results.
Meanwhile, there are strong indications that the planned expansion of the 2016 Lagos Advertising and Ideas Festival LAIF awards, to include entries from Ghana and other West African countries may have been put on hold. It was gathered from reliable learnt from sources that the association may not be able to go ahead with the innovation for the 2016 edition. No reason has yet been given by AAAN for the decision, but sources gathered that it may be due to logistical reasons.
The plan to make LAIF a force in the sub-regional was announced by the leadership of AAAN after the 2015 edition in Lagos which was the 10th year of organizing the awards. Ikechi Odigbo, who is the Chairman, LAIF management board disclosed after the event that Ghana had indicated interest to be part of the awards, same for a couple of other neigbouring countries.
“For next year, we are going to have LAIF transform into a regional award. We already have the endorsement of Advertising Association of Ghana. We hope to extend across English speaking West African countries for 2016 and I don’t know how we’ll manage the French speaking countries but we’ll see how we do that,” Odigbo told brand journalists in an exclusive interview in 2015.
Despite the setback, the 2016 LAIF still looks set to be bigger and better than ever as new categories have been introduced, including Agency of the Year Award, ‘Young Agency of the Year Award, Client of the Year Award, Effective Campaign of the Year Award etc. The organizers have also promised to make the event even more exciting than the 2015 edition.
LAIF award is the brain child of Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN). The maiden edition was held on Friday, June 9, 206 at the Expo Hall, Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. The award was instituted to recognize creative excellence, improve the quality of creative craft and promote the spirit of healthy competition, applying global best practice.
The award is the brainchild of Mr. Eyinnaya Odigbo, Chairman CASERS Group.
