Tall,  dark,  slim  in  his  signature towering cap, the New Honourable Commissioner for sports in Ogun state Nigeria stepped into a sparsely overgrown compound that housed few chalets. These apartments accomodated the footballers of Gateway United Football club, one of the oldest clubs in the Nigerian professional football league. The football players led by team captain OMOYAYI Saburi an Ex-Shooting stars FC captain and team player. Saburi lamented on poor infrastructure and the appalling state of the housing units coupled with bad press the team went through in the last season but which the team managed to scale. In addition to escaping relegation by whiskers in the last abridge league 2014/2015 the captain complained about external and political influences that not only discouraged the players last season but that it also contributed to their poor performance.
He highlighted their poor kits and also delays in the players’ salaries.


The Honourable Commissioner of Sports assured the players of his commitment to the needs of the team provided they can gain promotion to the premiership in the new season. He emphasized peculiarity of pausity of funds to any parastal or agency. The Honourable commissioner also promised the players that he intends to retain a winning team a fact which was also corroborated by the Chief Coach, Coach Abimbola Samuel.

The team plans to throw open a screening exercise in four (4) geo-political zones of the state namely ago-iwoye, Sagamu, ilaro and Abeokuta to scout and select fresh soccer talents that can fortify the team. This screening has been scheduled tentatively to take place next week on a date to be announced in a press release latest Saturday 12th December, 2015; however interested players can come to the Gateway United football Club secretariat at M.KO. ABIOLA stadium kuto Abeokuta to register for the screening free.

The Honourable Commissioner promised the technical crew that he would not welcome any new player signed to the team (for the new season) on sentimental grounds and unmerited favour.

The General Manager of the team Prince Adetunji Onatolu flanked by the team manager Mr T. Soleye thanked the Honourable Commissioner for taking out time from his tight schedule to pay a curtesy visit to the team at the club camp.

The Chief Coach, Coach Abimbola Samuel also thanked the GM and all members of the technical crew and team players on their immense support in the last season. He promised to keep giving them his best technically .
